we had such amazing weather on our Florida vacation. We got back from our ten day trip late Monday night to Michigan's usual freezing cold. But from the moment we left Michigan at four am on a Friday morning, the weather was grand. It was 62 here in Michigan that early morning and by the time we got to Florida, we were in the low to mid eighties with sunshine for the entire vacation. We made the most of it with a few days at the most beautiful beach on Siesta Key (Literally, it was voted one of the best beaches in the world, with sand like powdered sugar). It was the kids' first time to the ocean and was such a hit. We searched for shells and got our piggies wet in the freezing salt water. We wandered the town and watched the sun set over the ocean. We played some mini-golf and visited a fabulous aquarium where Reagan was excited to see sharks and we all enjoyed the dolphins, sea turtles, sting rays, and other residents. Eric and I asked the kids if they would rather pick out a lot more souvenirs and skip Disney this year. Reagan first had to know what a souvenir is but both kids agreed to more souvenirs in exchange for a day at Disney. Instead we spent our time lounging by the pool and eating out a lot!! The kids had such a blast swimming and I got two books read. Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult is spectacular, BTW.
I almost forgot, the first day that we were in Clermont, after leaving Siesta Key, we walked into the pool area of the Peabody Hotel. It is an absolutely beautiful hotel with an amazing pool. My parents, brother, sister in law, me, Eric and the kids all crashed the place and spent the day enjoying their fabulous ammenities. It just made it all the more fun that we were being somewhat naughty. This hotel is known for the ducks that spend the day in the hotel fountain then follow their duck master to the elevator and off to their "suite" every evening.
The drive to and from Florida are so long and exhausting for me but the kids seem to enjoy the adventure and the goodies that go along with that adventure. We drove home on Eric's birthday. We sang to him as we sipped our Chik fil-A shakes (as the rain poured outside of our car)and gave him his Grumpy t-shirt.
I have to say that this was the best vacation we have had, maybe because the kids are at such great ages to travel and spend time with, maybe the weather. Probably both but I am so grateful for the fantastic memories.
