The Toughest Parenting Moment

I really can't recall that there has been anything more difficult or heart-wrenching than telling our daughters that their beloved pet hamster passed away in the night. Although Spots technically belonged to Avery, both girls loves to hold Spots and make leggo mazes for her to run through. Avery took the news with loud blood-curdling wails. Reagan has been more stoic. Somewhat quiet and reflective. In the last few days Avery and reagan have both been quiet, sad and just not themselves. Reagan has had a lot of questions and a lot of "wise beyond her years" insight. "Spots body gets buried. Just her soul goes to Jesus." It turns out that Reagan's friend Grace had a hamster to give away, due to an allergy so we now have a new hamsterto share our home with. We decided that Spots was very lucky to have us and that this new hamster needs a family to care for it too. Spots would want Princess Sparkles to have us to love her. My heart broke for my poor babies when they heard the news. It still breaks for them when they tell me that they miss Spots.

It's a blessing that kids are so resilient! And that there just happened to be another hampster available :)
