This seems to be the big year for graduations in our family. Eric's brother and two of my cousins are graduating from high school in the weeks ahead and our baby graduated from preschool one week ago today!!! Mrs. Sharon has been practicing end of the year celebration songs and commencement for a few weeks with the kids (and preparing them for when she tears up with the last good byes). Reagan spent part of the morning telling me how she doesn't like (hates) graduation and didn't want to sing or say what she wants to be when she grows up but when parents and grandparents filled Mrs. Sharon's classroom, newly void of toys, bookshelves and miniature tables and chairs, Reagan was in her spot amongst her graduating class. She sang and smiled. When it was her turn to cross the bridge, receive her certificate and announce her future career, I could sense her hesitation. She was nervous. For weeks she told me that she was going to say "a cake cooker at Wal-Mart". She slowly walked the two small wooden steps of Mrs. Sharon's make-shift podium, held her hands together behind her back, gently twisting her little body from one side to the other, chin down, eyes up, lashes batting and hesitantly whispered "umm...a doctuw" Phew, her tension was relieved and she could sit back down out of the spotlight. I'm pretty sure the doctor came solely from the fact that she was nervous and just heard someone else choose doctor. My squimish little sweetheart would toss her cookies or pass out before day one of med school was over. She will however, make an amazing kindergartener in the fall.
